Fig, Newton

This is another old one-- really old-- in fact this was one of my first finished pieces done entirely in Photoshop. It was done as a bookmark promo to show clients that Leah the ex-Luddite was venturing into new territory.

I promise I will post something new later! I just love science-related topics.

You did this in PHOTOSHOP??? I'm in awe. Wow. I work with photoshop every day, but I had never dared to dream something like this could be made there. You are amazingly good. -I'll be comin' back for more ;)

Why is it that a dessert made of apples cut up and baked between a pastry crust is not called an apple newton rather then an apple pie? Or is this simply a misspelling of pi given the usually circular shape of the result?

And why do people say "I don't give a fig for his opinion"? rather then I don't give, say, a raisin, if they are trying for something small and trivial?

Or, to give another example, why don't they say, "I don't give a watermelon" to show that while they would give something small and trivial, that raisin or even a fig, they would not part with something more substantial, for that self same opinion.

Is not the language a poor and indelicate instrument of communication when it is powerless to express the shades of meaning?

Yours in deep perplexity,
Neil

Beautiful - as always, and it made me laugh! Great play on words. That is really neat that your Dad is a scientist, and I see it has had much positive influence on your work. I am just in awe of your work!
On another note, no I have not seen Pan's labyrinth, and I plan to do so very soon!
I'm going to post one of my bookmarks on my blog as well, since you reminded me!

This is my first time to your blog and I am AMAZED with your art! I would love to spend time watching you create in Photoshop. Please consider a tutorial for us more novice Photoshop illustrators. More art technique versus a photoshop how to.

I do like opera. I was, in point of fact, actually raised by a mother who was an opera singer ( the real thing - singing lead roles at the Met, La Scala, Covent Garden etc).

The Ms. Jenkins was Florence Foster Jenkins. Search for her on You Tube and you will understand what the picture is about.

A friend of mine is directing a play called "Glorious" about Ms. Jenkins and I was asked to come up for an image for a poster.

Regards, Neil
